I just wanted to do a post to let people know that I might hire an author to take nessabc’s place, like I said in my last post.  If you want to become an author, just go to the Become an Author page, read the page, and leave a comment telling why I should hire you as an author.  Make sure you follow all of the steps, and make sure you read everything carefully!  In the past few days, I have made some changes to the Become an Author page, so, if you have already read the page, make sure you re-read the page, because some things are different.

Hi peoples!

I have a couple updates that I wanted to share with you.

First, I want to wish everyone a happy new year from everyone who works on this blog.

Second, I’m sorry to say that nessabc isn’t going to be an author on Icy Comet’s Blog anymore.  We really enjoyed having her on this blog, and we are really going to miss her.

Lastly, I might hire an author to take nessabc’s place.  If you want to become an author in nessabc’s place, just leave a comment on the Become an Author page, telling why I should hire you as an author.  Please make sure you read the page before you comment, I have made a few changes.  After you leave your comment, Super Thunder, Popular Jumper, and I will take a look at your comment and if you have one, take a look at your blog, and then we will decide whether we want to hire you as an author or not.

My Dragon’s Keeper…

Well, actually it’s more of a keeper for us Poptropicans. A new item in the Poptropica store! It’s called Followers. But the difference between these followers are dragons! It costs 250 credits, or free with membership. It has three options. The first is a yellow dragon which breathes clouds, the second is a blue dragon that breathes blue circles, and the last one is a red dragon that breathes fire. This is what the item looks like:

And this is what the evil red dragon did to me:

Cryptids Island Trailer and a Bigfoot Buddy!

Just in case you didn’t know, Cryptids Island will come out to non-members on January 17, 2011.  Here is a cool trailer that is on the Cryptids Island Info Page.

Also, here is a post from Master Mime, telling about a new costume that is in the Poptropica Store, called Bigfoot Fanatic.

My Bigfoot Buddy

My new Bigfoot buddy goes everywhere I go.

Right now we are gazing at a lovely shrub that is in the shape of the Loch Ness Monster. You can go pick up a small, furry friend like mine at the store. Look for the Big Foot Fanatic outfit.

He is the perfect thing to keep your head warm when you search for the Yeti in the cold, mountain blizzards.

The Bigfoot Fanatic Costume costs 100 credits, so I would only get it if I was a member, or if I really loved Bigfoot.

Give it up for… the first ten finishers of Cryptids Island!

Do you believe in the Jersey Devil?

Know Your Cryptids: Jersey Devil

Jersey Devil: What’s its situation?

Cryptids Island is here! Before you take on some of the world’s most fearsome mythical monsters, we’d like to tell you a little bit about the legends.

They say that in the deepest, darkest woods of New Jersey’s Pine Barrens, Mother Leeds was about to give birth to her 13th child. “Let it be a devil!” she cried in exasperation. When the baby was born it sprouted wings and horns, and flew off into the night.

Since then, sightings of the “Jersey Devil” have persisted throughout southern New Jersey. Footprints, unearthly howls, even direct sightings have been reported. A naval commander once fired a cannonball at a strange creature he thought to be the Jersey Devil, to no effect.

Today, tales of the Jersey Devil are largely dismissed, and the creature itself is thought of as a joke. It even inspired the name of an ice hockey team, the New Jersey Devils. But there are still those who claim they can hear the beast’s eerie wail in the night…

Do you believe in the Chupacabra?

It’s time to get to know another Cryptid! This time you will get to know the Chupacabra. Now, here is Captain Crawfish, telling you about the Chupacabra.

Your Cryptids: Chupacabra

Chupacabra: ¿Que es?

Cryptids Island is coming on Monday to Poptropica! Before you take on some of the world’s most fearsome mythical monsters, we’d like to tell you a little bit about the legends. “Chupacabra” is Spanish for “goat-sucker,” and that’s exactly what this creature is said to do. Unlike many cryptids, the Chupacabra is a relatively recent phenomenon. The legend began in Puerto Rico in 1995, when a farmer found that several of his animals had been killed overnight, and the blood drained from their bodies through strange puncture wounds. Since then, the stories have spread to Mexico and the United States. But accounts of the Chupacabra vary widely: sometimes it is reported to be doglike in appearance, and sometimes, as in the drawing above, as an alien creature that walks on two legs. The only thing that unites all the tales is the creature’s bloodsucking behavior. Recently, a Chupacabra body was thought to have been found, but was proven to be a coyote with mange. So the questions remain. Is the Chupacabra a new, unknown animal? Is it a space alien? Or is it nothing more than a legend dreamed up by angry farmers? Perhaps one day we will know the truth.

As Captain Crawfish said, Cryptids Island will open to members Monday, and it will open a couple weeks later for non-members, we don’t know the exact date yet.

Update: Non-members will be able to play Cryptids Island on January 17, 2011.

Oh Cristmas Tree, oh Christmas Tree…

Well, you’re not exactly a Christmas Tree, but with this new costume, you sure have a lot of lights!

New costume: Tangled in Lights

There’s a new costume available in the Poptropica store! Wreathe yourself in holiday cheer with this string of festive lights, which includes three blinking patterns to choose from.

Do you believe in the Loch Ness Monster?

Remember how the Creators were telling us about Bigfoot?  Well, here is another post like that one, only this time it is telling you about the Loch Ness Monster, also known as…Nessie!

Know Your Cryptids: Loch Ness Monster

Nessie: Real, or all wet?

Cryptids Island is coming very soon to Poptropica! Before you take on some of the world’s most fearsome mythical monsters, we’d like to tell you a little bit about the legends.

Tales of the Loch Ness Monster go back centuries. Affectionately known as “Nessie,” she is said to live in the deep waters of Loch Ness, a lake in the Scottish Highlands. By most accounts, Nessie is a massive, long-necked creature that can travel on land as well as in the water.

The best-known picture of Nessie, shown above, was taken in 1934 by a surgeon named Dr. Wilson. Years later, another man claimed to have helped fake the photo, but it was impossible to know whether he was telling the truth, or simply seeking fame for himself.

Theories abound as to what Nessie could be. Some say that eyewitness accounts are honest misidentifications of everyday animals and objects. Others say she could be a leftover relic of the dinosaur age, specifically a plesiosaur. Still others think that there might once have been a Loch Ness Monster, but that it has died. And, of course, the possibility remains that Nessie is nothing but a hoax.

What do you think — do you believe in the Loch Ness Monster?

On the Poptropica Creators’ Blog, there is a new poll replacing the one about Bigfoot.  The poll asks if you believe in the Loch Ness Monster.  So far, there are 242 votes (51%) for the answer yes, 125 votes (26%) for the answer no, and 100 votes (21%) for the answer undecided.

Also, here is a video that was on the Poptropica Creators’ Blog that you might just want to see.

So, as you heard in the video, Cryptids Island will come out to members on Monday, December the 20th.  Hopefully, non-members won’t have to wait a really long time before they can go onto Cryptids Island.

Well, that is all for now, more news about Cryptids Island coming soon!
