Ghost Story Island

Hemlock Harbor is said to be haunted. And, as your journey goes on, you begin to wonder if ghosts really do exist. But how can you find out for sure if ghost hunting is forbidden? And, if ghosts really do exist, what do these restless spirits want?

If you aren’t already there, go to Ghost Story Island using your blimp. You will arrive on Main Street. Go right until you see a man who is standing in front of a stand that has a bunch of souvenirs on it. Click on the man to talk to him. He will try to sell you some souvenirs that have to do with ghosts, but he says that he can’t let the magistrate see him. When you ask him if there are really ghosts around there, he will tell you that the editor of the Herald is paying big bucks for proof that ghosts exist.

Enter the building next to the stand (the building is called the Hemlock Herald, and it is where the local newspaper is published). Go right until you see a lady wearing glasses (she’s the editor of the Herald). Click on her to talk to her. She will tell you that she will pay you $50 dollars for each piece of evidence that you can give her that ghosts exist.

Exit the building. Go to the left until you see a man who is standing in front of a building called The Gingerbread House. Click on the man to talk to him, and he will give you some salt.

Go to the left, and keep going until you reach the Foggy Forest. As you are walking toward the gates of the graveyard, you will hear a noise and your Poptropican will get scared. I man will come out of the gates of the graveyard. He will approach your Poptropican, and he will ask if you will allow him to be your guide to some of the town’s haunted spots. When you ask if there really are ghosts in Hemlock Harbor, he will tell you that there are. The fog will begin to go away and a man with a mustache, black hat, and cane will approach. The guide will tell you that he better go before he gets into trouble. As he runs away, he will drop one of his pamphlets, and it will land on you. The pamphlet will go to your items. The man with the mustache will tell you that Hemlock Harbor was once a peaceful town, before the ghost hunting turned it into a cheap tourist destination. He will also tell you that if you don’t have any business in the woods, to go find lodging for the night.

Go to your items and find the Pamphlet. Press the button that says “Examine”. The pamphlet will tell about some of Hemlock Harbor’s supposed ghosts. You don’t have to read the pamphlet, but it might be interesting.

Go to the left until you see a man in a suit and a bow tie. Click on the man to talk to him, and he will tell you that he has been searching the cemetery for days trying to find where his uncle is buried. He will also tell you that the location might be in the archives at the Hemlock Herald, and that he will give you his room at the inn if you find the location.

Go to the right, exit the Foggy Forest and enter Main Street.

Once you are on Main Street, go to the right until you get to the Hemlock Herald. Enter the Hemlock Herald and find the editor of the newspaper. Click on the editor to talk to her. You will ask her if you can see the archives, and she will unlock the door to the room with the archives for you. Enter the archives room.

Go down the stairs and to the right. Stop when you see a box that is labeled “Cemetery Plots”. Click on the box.

You will be brought to a screen where the instructions will tell you to find Silas Moon. Flip through the book’s pages by clicking on a page and dragging your mouse to the left or right. When you get to the page where Silas Moon’s name is on, it will automatically highlight it for you.

Exit the archives room.

Exit the Hemlock Herald.

Go back to the Foggy Forest.

Go to the left and talk to the guy with the suit and bow tie. He will give you the key to his room.

Exit the Foggy Forest, and go back to Main Street.

Once you’re back on Main Street, keep going right until you are in a place called Hemlock Dwellings.

There will be an inn there. Go inside the inn.

You will walk to the right and start talking to the land lady. She will tell you that she is glad that a room became available to you. She will then tell you that she has to go meet her husband, because they have to make some preparations for the night.

Go to the left until you see a staircase. Go up the staircase and go left until you see room 2B, which is your room. Click on the room to go inside.

Go to the left and click on the bed to go to sleep. There will be a cut-scene where you will be looking through your Poptropican’s eyes. You will wake up, and you will see a chair, painting, and door of a cabinet all start moving. Your poptropican will wake up scared.

Click on one of the pieces of furniture to make the landlord and the landlady fall out of them. When you ask what is going on, they will tell you that they are sorry for fooling you, but they were trying to give people what they wanted, which is a good fright. They will also tell you that if you want to see the woman in the window, all you have to do is play her favorite song on the violin. Exit your room.

Go left, down the stairs, and right until you see a violin. Run in front of the violin to get the Violin and Music. It will go to your items. Exit the inn.

Go right until you see a man standing next to a tent. There is a pair of binoculars on the ground. Click on the man to talk to him. He will start talking about the woman in the window (one of Hemlock Harbor’s supposed ghosts) when the magistrate appears. He will fuss at the man for ghost hunting. The magistrate will tell the man to come with him, and then both of them will walk away. Go to your items and find the Violin and Music. Click on the button that says “Use”.

Drag your mouse back and forth to make the violin’s bow move back and forth. That will make a song start playing. You can actually hear the song, so make sure that your computer’s speakers are on if you want to hear the song. When you are done playing the song, you will see that the curtains of the highest window in the building are moving. Your Poptropican will say that you should get a closer look.

Click on the binoculars that are on the ground next to the tent. They will go to your items. Go to your items, find the Binoculars, and click on the button that says “Use”. Move the binoculars upward until you see the window that you saw earlier. You will see a woman appear in the window. Your Poptropican will be shocked when he/she sees the woman, because he/she will think that it is a real ghost. Your Poptropican will say that the woman looks like she wants you to come closer.

Go back over to the inn, but don’t go inside. Climb to the top of the inn by jumping onto things like windows, railings, etc. Once you are on the top. Do a flying leap toward the right, which is toward the building that the woman is in.

Once you have landed, you will see that the doors are boarded up and that you can’t get in that way. So, go over to the door to the cellar, and enter through there.

You will find yourself in a creepy basement full of old dolls and things like that. Go down the staircase, keep going left, and start climbing up another staircase. When you get to a certain part of the staircase, the whole bottom part of the staircase will collapse, and you will be thrown to the floor.

There are two crates to your left, one is really big and the other one is smaller. Jump up onto the top of the big crate, knocking the small crate to the left of the big crate. Jump down to the left of the big crate. Push it a little to the right, make sure that it isn’t too far from the top of the staircase. Go back to the little crate. Push it to the left so that it is next to the big crate.

Jump onto the small crate, and, from there, jump onto the big crate. From the big crate, jump onto the top part of the staircase. Continue your climb up the staircase.

Once you are at the top, go to the right, past a fireplace with a picture above it, and climb up yet another staircase. There will be a door at the top of the staircase. Click on the door to go through it.

Go to the right until you see a platform with a telescope on it. Go up onto the platform and click on the telescope. Adjust it so you can see through it clearly, and then move it to the left by moving your mouse to the left. Stop when you see a lighthouse. You will see a light go up to the top of the lighthouse. You will hear a woman’s voice say, “Looking for someone?”. Your Poptropican will jump at the voice, and you will see an elderly lady behind you. She will tell you that she hopes that she didn’t scare you. You will ask if she is a ghost. She will tell you that she is just in town to take care of some business. But, she will tell you that, if you are interested in looking for spirits, she can help you get started. She will tell you to see Jane the baker and to tell Jane that Fiona sent you.

Exit the building by going back the same way you came in.

Exit Hemlock Dwellings and go back to Main Street.

When you are back on Main Street, go to the right until you get to The Gingerbread House. Enter the shop.

The baker who is to your left is Jane the baker. Click on Jane to talk to her. When you tell her that Fiona sent you she will make the counter disappear and, in the place of the counter, a case with four gadgets on it will rise up. Jane will tell you that they are the ultimate ghost-tracking gadgets and that they are yours to keep.

She will then explain what the gadgets are called and what they do. The first one is called the Thermal Scanner and it helps you see the invisible. The second one is called the EMF Detector and it lets you know when a spirit is near. The third one is a thermometer. It will let you know if there is a drop in the temperature from a spirit passing by. The last one is a camera, and it can sometimes take a picture of spirits that are invisible to the naked eye.

You will thank Jane, and she will tell you to get some hot cross buns before you leave.

The hot cross buns are on the table next to you. Click on the hot cross buns to get them.

Exit The Gingerbread House.

Your Poptropican will say that the cemetery is probably the best place if you want to search for ghosts.

Go left until you are back in the Foggy Forest. Enter the graveyard by going through the gates. You will find yourself in a maze. There will be a sort of map in the top right-hand corner of your screen. If you point your mouse to the middle of the screen an arrow that is pointing forward will appear. Click when you see that if you want to go forward. If you move the mouse to the sides, you will see arrows facing either to the right or left (depending on what side of the screen your mouse is on). Click when you see those if you want to turn.

Go forward, turn left, go forward twice, turn right, go forward, turn left, and go through the gates.

Once you are out of the maze, you will find yourself in part of the cemetery called Cemetery Lot A. Go right, jump onto the thing that looks like a coffin with a plant on it, and jump up onto the small cliff above you. A woman will come out from behind a tombstone and say that the cloaked spirit will be there any second. You will hide with the woman.

Suddenly a cloaked figure who is holding a rose will walk by. It will stop by another tombstone. On the bottom left-hand part of your screen, a camera icon will start flashing. Click on it to go to your items. Find the Camera and use it. Move the camera until you get a view of the cloaked figure. When you get it in the screen, a picture will automatically be taken of it.

At the sound of the shutter going off, the figure will run away. A photo of the figure will go to your items.

Exit Cemetery Lot A. Go back to the Foggy Forest by going back the way you came.

Go back to Main Street.

Go to the Hemlock Herald and enter it. Go to your items, find the Photo, and press the button that says “Use”. You will give the Photo to the editor. In return, she will give you the fifty dollars that she said she would.

Exit the Hemlock Herald. Go to the left until you get to the Bank. Enter the Bank.

Go to the right until you see a bank teller. Click on her to talk to her. She will that it is time for her to close the bank, and that she doesn’t know what is scarier, the ghosts or the people running around to try and find them.

Go right until you see a doorway that has a sign over it that says “Bank Vault”. Go through the doorway to go to the vault.

You will find yourself in a downstairs room. There will be a dog and a police officer in the room. Go up to the police officer, go to your items, find the Money, and press the button that says “Use”. You will give the money to the police officer, and he will open the door to the vault. He will enter the vault with his dog. The dog will start scratching the floor. The police officer will tell you that he has no idea why his dog is doing that, but that the dog always does that whenever they go in there.

An icon of your Thermal Scanner will start flashing. Click on it to go to your items. Find it in your items and use it. Move your cursor to the spot where the dog is scratching the floor. You will see that there is something under the floor. It might be a ghost!

When you’re done with the Thermal Scanner, click to stop using it. The police officer will tell you that if that is the only deposit that you are going to make, you better be on your way.

Exit the bank.

Go right and you will see some people gathered around a stack of newspapers. The people will start talking to you. Once they are done talking, click on the stack of newspapers. You will see that the picture that you took has been printed.

Once you are done looking at the newspaper, click the button that says “Close”.

Suddenly, the magistrate will come walking up to you and the other Poptropicans. He will say that the picture isn’t any proof and that it is just another hoax. He will tell everyone to go back to their homes.

Everyone will start walking away, and the magistrate will walk up to you and tell you that he will keep a close eye on you and that he hopes that you are not the one behind this nonsense. The magistrate will walk away.

Your Poptropican will say that the magistrate could be right and that the cloaked figure might not have been a ghost, but that you should do some more investigating.

There will be a cut-scene that begins with the word “meanwhile”. You will see a boat sail up to the beach that has the tent and is where you spotted Fiona in the window.

The cut-scene will end.

Go to the place that the cut-scene showed. There will be a man standing on the beach. Click on the man to talk to him. He will ask you if you know of any available rooms in town. Go to your items, find your Room B Key, and click on the button that says “Use” to give it to the man.

When you give the key to the man he will tell you that you are free to use his boat anytime that you want to.

Go over to the boat and jump onto it. Enter the cabin to sail it.

To sail, move your mouse in the direction that you want to go and click to actually move the boat. Sail to the left and you will see a lighthouse. Click on the lighthouse to dock there.

Jump off of your boat and onto the lighthouse. There is a torch that is hanging on the wall beside the door to the inside of the lighthouse. Click on the torch to get it. Enter the lighthouse.

Go to your items, find the torch that you just got, and click on the button that says “Use”. There will be a torch that is lit that is standing next to a staircase. Go over to the torch to light the torch in your hand.

Start climbing up the staircase. When you see leaves blow down the staircase, duck. Otherwise, you will be thrown off of the staircase and your torch will go out. If you want to be on the safe side, one good thing to do is just climb for a few seconds and duck until the wind starts and dies.

Keep climbing the staircase until you get to the top. Parts of the staircase will be broken off at certain points, so you will have to jump across the gaps between the pieces.

When you reach the top, there will be a rope hanging down. Climb the rope and then jump onto the platform to your right. Your Poptropican will say that it has heard something about it being cold when ghosts are around, and an icon of your the thermometer will start flashing. Click on the icon to go to your items, find the thermometer, and use it. You will stick part of the thermometer to the wall.

To your left there will be an old, broken ladder. Climb up the ladder. When you reach the top of the ladder, go to the outside part of the lighthouse.

Go to the right and click on the lighthouse’s light. You will be brought to a screen where you will be able to move the light around by moving your cursor. Move the light toward the top right-hand corner of your screen.

Click on the button that says “Exit”. Go over to the right edge of the lighthouse, and jump over it. You will find yourself back by your ship.

Go into the cabin of the ship to start sailing. Sail over to the building that you saw when you were at the lighthouse. Dock there.

Go to the right and up some stairs. You will see a sign that says “Hemlock Harbor Prison”. Enter the prison.

An icon of your EMF Detector will begin to flash. Click on it to go to your items, find the EMF Detector, and use it.

The little needle will go point toward toward the red part if you are near a ghost. Go to your right until you see an elevator. Push the button that will bring you to level H. Go to the right until you see a door that is labeled “Warden’s Office”. Go into the office. Go to the right and you will see a chair rocking back and forth. The only thing weird about that is that there is no one in the chair…at least, that is what it looks like.

Go to your items and find the Thermal Scanner. Use it. You will see that there is someone in the chair.

Go to your items and find the hot cross buns. Click on the button that says “Use”. You will put the hot cross buns on a table. You will see the chair that is rocking. It will rock really fast once, and then the rocking will stop. The hot cross buns will be eaten by something invisible.

A ghost will appear. The ghost is the warden. The warden will say that you are not prisoner 24601. When you ask who that is, the warden will give you a mug shot of 24601. He will then tell you that 24601 was the only one to escape from the prison. He escaped by digging a hole in his cell, which the warden covered up, fearing that it would bring shame to the institution. But, the truth leaked out, and the prison shut down. The warden will tell you that he must haunt the prison until 24601 is found.

Go to your items and find the mug shot of 24601. You will see that it says “Cell 8, Block D”. That was 24601’s cell.

Exit the office and go to the elevator. Go to floor D. Find cell 8. Click on the cell to go inside it.

You will see a book on the floor. Click on it to open it. There will be an indentation in the pages that is shaped like a pickaxe. Anyway, when you close the book, your Poptropican will say that it looks like someone hid the tool in the book. Move over to the right, and the door will shut. Your Poptropican will say that it looks like the warden wants someone in the cell, even if it is you.

Go over to the bed and move it out of the way to reveal a hole in the wall.

Go into the hole.

You will find yourself in a tunnel. An icon of your Thermal Scanner will begin to flash. Click on the icon to go to your items, find the Thermal Scanner, and use it.

Go up all the way and then to the right, and you will see that there is someone at the end of the tunnel. Click when you are done using the Thermal Scanner to get out of it.

Go through the tunnel. On your way through the tunnel, you should find a can of sardines and a pickaxe.

When you get to the end of the tunnel, you will see two things. The first thing is a letter that is lying on the ground. Walk over to the letter to get it. The second thing that you will see is a ghost who is in a prison uniform. The ghost is prisoner 24601. Click on him to talk to him. He will tell you that he was misled by Flatbottom, and that he became trapped in the tunnel that he has been trying to escape from. When you ask him why Flatbottom would lead him to the bank vault, he will tell you that he thinks that he must have been afraid that he would confess their crime. He will also say that it serves him right for tricking a man named Valiant.

If you read the letter that was on the ground, you will find that it is from Flatbottom to 24601. There isn’t anything super important in the letter, it basically just confirms what 24601 told you.

Go back through the tunnel to the cell.

When you are back in your cell, go to your items and find the pickaxe. Use it and you will dig yourself out of the cell.

You will find yourself out of the cell.

Exit the prison. Go back to your boat and go inside the cabin to begin sailing.

Sail the boat back to the mainland and dock on the beach. Once you have docked, an icon of the thermometer will begin to flash. Your Poptropican will say that the thermometer has detected a drop in the temperature and that you should go check the lighthouse.

Sail to the lighthouse. Enter it. You will see a torch floating up the staircase. Climb up the staircase. The wind has died down, so you don’t have to duck or anything.

When you reach the place where put the thermometer, you will see a ghost who is crying. Click on the ghost to talk to him. He will tell you that when a ship set sail for England, instead of shining the lighthouse’s light on some dangerous rocks, he was sleeping on the cot. He will tell you that the ship crashed on the dangerous rocks. He will tell you to sail north past the rocks and see for yourself.

Exit the lighthouse.

Go to your boat and sail in the direction that the ghost told you to. The lighthouse’s light will be shining on a shipwreck. Click on it to examine it. You will find a locket in the wreckage.

Sail back to the mainland.

Once you are back on dry land, go to your items and find the locket that you found. Examine it. You will see that it is a note to the man named Valiant from Fiona.

Go up to Fiona’s house. Go inside. Go to the upstairs room where you saw Fiona before. But, this time, instead of going right, go to the left. You will see her standing beside a bed that is on a platform. Click on Fiona to talk to her. You will give her the locket and the note that was inside it and the note to prisoner 24601 from Flatbottom. Fiona will say that Valiant was tricked by a forged letter. She will also say that if a man named Henry was responsible for the letter that she will not regret discarding his ring. She will say “Let it sit at the bottom of the fountain forever!”. She will begin to cry and then walk away.

Jump off of the platform. You will see a book on the floor. Click on it to pick it up. Examine it. It is a scrapbook of pictures of Fiona and Valiant. There will also be two pictures with the man named Flatbottom. When you are done looking at the scrapbook, your Poptropican will say that Henry Flatbottom was obviously a friend of Valiant and Fiona. You will wonder why Flatbottom would trick Valiant. Your Poptropican will also wonder about the ring in the fountain.

Exit Fiona’s house and go back to Main Street. Go over to the fountain that is between the Bank and the Hemlock Herald. Go to your items and find the sardines. Use them. You will throw a sardine and the bird that was sitting on the top of the top of the fountain will fly away after the sardine.

Go up to the top of the fountain and click on the bird’s nest. You will find a ring in the nest.

Go over to the Foggy Forest. Enter the graveyard.

Turn right, go forward, turn left, go forward three times, turn right, and go through the gates.

Go to the right until you come to a hut. Go inside the building. There will be a man to your right. Click on him to talk to him. He will tell you that he is an engraver and that he doesn’t just engrave headstones. Go to your items, find the ring, and use it. He will say that he engraved the ring, but that it wasn’t enough to sway Fiona’s heart. He will also say that at least Mr. Flatbottom has his job to occupy him. When you ask what Flatbottom’s job is, he will tell you to go look up the story in the newspaper archives. He will tell you to look under August 18, 1929.

Exit the graveyard by going back the way you came. Go back to Main Street.

Go to the Hemlock Herald and enter it. Go down to the archives. Go over to the computer. Click on it.

Your instructions are to turn the handles to search through old newspapers and when you find the right one to zoom in to read the article. When you reach the year 1929 a little green light will come on so that you know you have found the right year. Click on the zoom button. The article will say that Flatbottom became the youngest magistrate in history. It will also say that Flatbottom is unveiling a memorial to the crew of the Mermaid which included his close friend Valiant Lovejoy. The memorial is in Lot A in the graveyard.

Your Poptropican will say that Flatbottom is the magistrate and that you think you know who the cloaked figure is now.

Exit the Hemlock Herald and go back to the Foggy Forest.

Enter the graveyard and go to Lot A. Go to the right and up the small hills until you get to a monument. Your Poptropican will notice that the grave isn’t completely sealed. Click on the top of the grave to push it to the side. A ladder will appear. Go down the ladder.

You will find yourself in another maze. This one looks really complicated, but just follow the rose petals and you should find yourself in the right spot.

You should find yourself in front of another ladder. Go up the ladder. You will come out of a tree stump that is in the Foggy Forest.

Your Poptropican will see someone coming, and you will hide. You see the cloaked figure walk up, stop, and sneeze.

Your Poptropican will run up to the figure and say that ghosts don’t sneeze. You will ask the figure who it is, it will jump into the tree stump. You will follow it.

You will be brought back to Lot A. The figure will run to the left. Follow it. Jump onto the piece of a grave that is sticking out, and, from there, jump onto the cliff where you first saw the figure. You will shake salt into the figure’s eyes. It’s hood will fall back and you will see that it is the magistrate! When the magistrate tells you to leave, you will tell him that he must answer to his crimes and that he is responsible for sending Valiant Lovejoy to his death. The magistrate will tell you that he did that so that he could woo Fiona. He will also tell you that she refused him and died shortly after.

Your Poptropican will be shocked when you find out that Fiona is dead. The magistrate will tell you that he has been visiting Fiona’s grave for nearly fifty years, but that he can never forgive himself for his terrible deed. The magistrate will begin to cry, and a breeze will stir, making something blow off of Fiona’s grave, revealing Fiona’s name. Suddenly, Fiona will appear. So will prisoner 24601, the warden, and the ghost that you saw at the lighthouse.

Fiona will tell the magistrate that his crime deprived so many souls of rest. She will also tell him that they thank him for his confession and that they forgive him.

Suddenly, Valiant Lovejoy (obviously a ghost) will appear and tell Fiona that he has returned. Fiona will tell Valiant that she never lost hope. She will then say “Now let us rest”. All of the ghosts will disappear.

The magistrate will thank you for helping them find peace. He will give you an island medallion and 50 credits to spend in the Poptropican Store.

Congratulations, you have now completed Ghost Story Island!
