Counterfeit Island

Someone is trying to steal some of the most valuable art in the world! While trying to catch the criminal, you get blamed for stealing a priceless painting! Can you catch the real criminal and clear your name?

If you are not already on the island, take the blimp to Counterfeit Island. When you get there, you will arrive on Main Street. Go right, until you stop at a cafe called Web Browser Internet Cafe.

Go inside the cafe. You will see a French-English dictionary lying on a table. There is a loose page in the dictionary. Click on the dictionary to get the page.

Exit the cafe and go right, until you reach the island’s multiplayer room, The Moldy Baguette Inn.

Jump up onto the building’s windowsills. On one of the windowsills, there should be a torn piece of paper. Get the piece of paper. Once you have picked up the paper, jump down and go left, stopping when you get to the Museum.

Jump onto the Museum’s roof. There, you will find another piece of paper. Get the paper. Then, jump down.

Go to the right, until you reach a clown shop called Bobo’s Clown Store. Go inside the store.

When you go inside the store, click on the green balloon to get it. Getting the green balloon is important to completing the island, but, don’t worry, after a small amount of time you can go back and get a different colored balloon if you want to. Once you have the balloon, leave the shop.

Go right until you see the second trash can that is to the right-hand side of an entrance to the city’s Underground Tunnel. Click on the trash can. Move all the trash aside until you see a pair of tickets for a tour of the Underground Tunnel. Click on the tickets to get them.

Go right until you see a boy who is standing with his mother. The boy is crying, and his mother is holding a red balloon. Click on the boy’s mother to talk to her. She will tell you, “Mon fils veut un balloon vert!” If you look at the page you got from the French-English Dictionary, you can see that the word “veut” means want and that the word “vert” means green. From that, you can tell that the boy’s mother said that her son wants a green balloon.

To give the boy the green balloon that you have, just click on him. As soon as you give him the balloon, the boy will float away.

Go left until you get to the Web Browser Internet Cafe. Go inside the cafe. Inside the cafe, on the TV, there is a news story on about “Balloon Boy”. Talk to the man who is standing next to the TV. He will tell you that he had a couple of tickets to tour the Underground Tunnel and that if you find them for him, he will give you one of the tickets. Go to your items and press the button that says “Use” on the Underground Tunnel Tickets’ item card. The man will thank you for finding his tickets, and, like he said, he will give you a ticket of your own.

Go back to the entrance to the Underground Tunnel. Click the button that says “Use” on your Underground Tunnel Ticket’s item card. You will then be allowed to take the Underground Tour. Click on the iron gate to begin the tour.

When you go into the tunnels, the tour guide will follow you. If you click on her she will tell you information about the tunnels, such as, “These tunnels are over 200 years old. They run directly under the city’s Museum Fantastique.

Follow the tunnels until you get to a place with skeletons in it. There is a long, black pole hanging down from the celing, and on the end of it there is a light bulb. Jump onto the pole, and climb all the way up. You should see a piece of paper that is to your right. Jump off of the pole and try to get the piece of paper. It may take a few tries, but don’t give up!

Once you have the piece of paper, keep following the tunnels. Go through the tunnels until you reach the exit. Exit the tunnels. You will find that you are in the city’s docks.

There is a mysterious looking man who is standing next to you. He is wearing a brown suit and has a scar on his check. Click on the man to talk to him. He will tell you that a painting called the Scream is going to be stolen. He tells you to apply for a job and the museum and catch the thief in the act.

Once you are done talking to the man, go right until you see a piece of paper. Get the piece of paper.

Once you have the piece of paper, go right until you get to the museum.

When you get to the museum, you will see a woman standing to the right-hand side of the entrance of the museum. If you talk to her, she will tell you that she is the chief inspector for the police, and that she is going to try to catch the future-thief of the Scream. If you ask if you can help, she will tell you to leave it to the professionals.

Enter the museum. You will see a security guard standing to the left. Click on the security guard to talk to him. He will tell you that the museum is an art museum. If you ask him if you can come in, he will tell you that the museum isn’t open yet. When you tell him that you are interested in applying for the job, he will tell you to go and speak with the assistant curator.

Go right until you reach a staircase. Go up the staircase, and go to the left. Keep going left until you see a man who is standing to the left-hand side of a door that is labeled “Forgery Detection Lab”. Click on the man to talk to him. He will tell you that the curator is out of town, but that, if you want the job, you can move around the paintings until they are in the correct wings. There are four paintings that are in the wrong wings.

Go to the bottom left-hand wing that is labeled “Realism”. Click on the middle painting. Next, go to the top left-hand wing that is labeled “Cubism”. Click on the middle painting. After that, go to the top right-hand wing that is labeled “Impressionism”. Click on the third painting. Then, go to the bottom right-hand wing that is labeled “Expressionism”. Click on the third painting. Finally, go back to the bottom left-hand wing that is labeled Realism, and put the painting in the empty spot.

Once all the paintings are in their places, go back to the assistant curator. Click on the assistant curator to talk to him. He will tell you that you are hired, and to go into the Forgery Detection Lab when you are ready to begin your training.

Enter the door that the assistant curator is standing next to. Click on the assistant curator to talk to him. He will tell you that you are in the Forgery Detection Lab, and that is where they test paintings to see if they are counterfeit or not. He will also tell you to pick your station to begin your training. There are two stations. You can do either one first, but you have to do both.

Here’s how to do the first one:

1. You have to use the little hand-held device to see through the painting to see the canvas underneath. There are five paintings. Examine all of them with the device. Once you have examined them all, click on the painting that had the drawings underneath the painting.

2. You will be shown three paintings that are supposedly by the same artist. You will have to use the magnifying glass to see which one is fake. Go over the signatures on each of the paintings with the magnifying glass. The middle one is different, so it is a fake.

3. You will be shown a photo. You will need to click on the area that proves that the photo is fake. Use your mouse to scroll up to the part of the picture that shows the moon. Take a close look at the moon, you can see stars through the moon. Click on the moon.

Once you have done all that, you are done with the first station.

Here’s how to do the second one:

There are three paint samples you will need to test. When you click on a paint sample, a red bar inside of a tube will start to move to the right. There are four little boxes on the tube. When the red bar gets to each box, the box will turn a color. Click on the chemical of that color. Be fast, though, if you don’t click on the right color quick enough, you will have to start over.

Once you have tested all of the paint samples, you are done with the second station.

Once you are done with the stations, you will get Supply Room Key.

Once you have the Supply Room Key, exit the Forgery Detection Lab. Go left until you see a small entrance to an area that has two signs on it. The signs should say “Statue Room” and “Security Office”. Enter the area.

You will find yourself in a hall with statues in it. Go to the right until you reach a door. Go inside the door. You will find yourself in another hall. The hall has leads to two places, one, the Security Office, and two, the Supply Room. Go right, past the Security Office, until you get to a door that you can’t get past. Go to your items, and press the “Use” button on the Supply Room Key’s item card. The door will open. Go to the right, and pick up the piece of paper that is lying on the ground.

Once you have the piece of paper, exit the museum. Go left until you get to the city’s docks.

Once you are at the city’s docks, go left until you get to a ship. Climb up the ship and get the piece of paper. After you have the piece of paper, go right until you get to the Underground Tunnel’s exit. Talk to the mysterious looking man. He will tell you that the thief will strike that night. He will also tell you that he has opened the tunnel for you.

Enter the tunnel. Follow the tunnel until you see a wooden ladder. At the top of the ladder there is a piece of metal. Click on the piece of metal. You will be shown a circle with an image on it. You have to change the image until it is correct, using the picture that you have. You can move the horns, eyebrows, eyeballs, the mouth, and the tongue. Once you think you have it right, click on the button at the top. If you don’t have the image right, the image will reset itself. If you do have it right, the piece of metal will swing forward, revealing an exit. Exit the tunnel.

You will find yourself in the Supply Room at the museum. Go right until you reach the Supply Room’s door. Go to your items and click on the button that says Use on the Supply Room Key’s item card. The door will become unlocked, and you can get out of the Supply Room.

Go right, passed the Security Office. Make sure you are careful when you walk past, otherwise you will be caught and have to start over. Once you are passed the Security Office, go into the Statue Room.

When you are in the Statue Room, you will see red lasers all around. You have to make your way through the room by hiding behind the plants and statues when the lasers go past you.

Once you are out of the Statue Room, walk over to “The Scream” and click on it. You will jump up above “The Scream”. An alarm will ring, and police will come in and arrest you.

A newspaper article will be shown, saying that “the scream thief was busted” and that a lie-detector test would be done that day. Get out of the newspaper article by clicking the button in the top right-hand corner that says “close”.

After you get out of the newspaper, you will see a screen that says “The next morning at the police station…”, and you will find yourself at the police station. You will be given the lie-detector test. To take the test, answer all of the questions right. If you take the test right, you will be proven innocent.

The police officer will say that she knew that you were innocent from the beginning. When you ask how she knew, she will tell you that the painting was stolen right after you were arrested. She will also tell you to meet her at the museum Security Office to look at the security footage. Exit the police station and go to the museum.

When you arrive at the museum, you will notice that the security guard isn’t there. Go to the Security Office.

Once you are in the Security Office, go over to the second desk that you see and click on the white computer to look at the security footage.

After a few seconds, you will realize that there are hours and hours of footage and that you need to find out what time to start at. Exit the museum.

Once you are out of the museum, go to Bobo’s Clown Store. You will find the security guard in there. Talk to him. After you talk to him, he will give you his time card. Exit the shop, and go back to the museum.

Once you have arrived at the museum, go to the Security Office.

When you are inside the Security Office, go over to the white computer to look at the security footage. This time, you will start the footage when the security guard was out. After a few seconds of looking at the video, you will see the mysterious looking man steal the Scream. To take a screen print of it, press the button on the bottom-right hand corner of the computer that says “Print Screen”.

Once you have gotten the screen print, you will go over to the investigator and show her the picture. When you ask her if she recognizes the man, she will say that she doesn’t. When you ask her if she knows where to find him, she will say that she doesn’t. When you ask her what you should do, she suggests showing the picture to the people in town.

Exit the museum and go to Bobo’s Clown Store.

When you get to Bobo’s Clown Store, go over to one of the mimes. Go to your items, click on the one that says “Surveillance Video Screen Print”, and click on the button that says “Show”.

You will ask the mime where to find the man in the picture, and the mime will pretend like he/she is playing musical instruments.

Go right until you get to the Jazz Cafe. Enter the Jazz Cafe.

When you are inside the Jazz Cafe, go right until you see the mysterious looking man. Click on him, and you will call him a thief. He will start running away.

Go all the way right and exit the cafe through the door.

You will see the man riding away on a scooter. You will hop onto another scooter. You will begin to chase the man on the scooter.

When you are chasing the man, make sure that you dodge everything except for the ramps, which will send you flying in the air, which will make you go faster.

After awhile, you will end up at the city’s docks. You will see the mysterious looking man ride down the pier, jump off of the scooter, and end up in a boat. He will go away. You will go to the edge of the pier, and you will find a Key Card that the man dropped.

After you pick up the Key Card, go on back to the museum and go inside.

When you enter the museum, the assistant curator will be waiting for you. He will give you a package that has no return address. Inside the package is Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

Go to your items, and find the item card for Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Click the button that says “Examine” on the item card.

Take the scanner thing that is to the right-hand side of the painting and scan the painting with it. A message will appear on the painting. The message says, “Meet me at the museum on Early Poptropica Island. Tell no one. You’re being watched. – The Curator.”

Exit the museum. Go to your blimp, and head over to Early Poptropica Island. You will arrive on Main Street.

You you arrive in Early Poptropica Island, go left until you get to the Pop Art Museum. Enter the museum.

Once you are inside the museum, go all the way to the left until you see a lady with gray hair who is dressed in purple. That lady is the curator. Click on the curator to talk to her. She will tell you that some of the world’s greatest artwork is hidden in a secure location and now it is in danger, and that someone you trust is watching you closely. She will also give you a key.

Exit the museum. Go in your blimp and travel back to Counterfeit Island.

Once you are back in Counterfeit Island, go all the way right until you see a small cottage. When you past the guy in front of the Moldy Baguette, he will stop you and tell you that he recently sold a painting to the investigator, but the painting didn’t have a frame.

After you talk to the guy in front of the Moldy Baguette, keep on going right until you get to the cottage.

Once you have reached the cottage, walk up to its front door and use the key that the curator gave you. After using the key, you will enter the cottage.

Go up to the second floor of the cottage, and click on the top right-hand corner of the painting where it looks like it is falling out of the frame. You will peel back the painting to reveal another painting underneath it, the Scream! Suddenly the lights will go out.

After a few seconds, you will find yourself “somewhere deep in the earth…”. There will be a woman standing in front of you. The woman is who you thought was the inspector, but, when you talk to her, you will find out that she really is the Black Widow. She will ask you where all the important artwork is hidden that the curator was talking about. After you tell her that you have no idea, she will go away.

You will then begin talking to the mysterious man, you has been tied up like you. He will tell you that he was betrayed by the Black Widow. For years, he had been the Black Widow’s right-hand man, but now she has betrayed him as well. He will tell you to try and move over to where he is, and that he will untie you.

To get over to him, you need to move forward and back in the chair by moving your mouse back and forth. Be careful, though, if you fall over, you’ll have to try again. The key is to try and move forward less than you move backwards.

Once you get to the man, you will both get untied. He will go by your side, and he will follow where you walk. It’s time to catch the Black Widow!

Make sure that you stay alert for the next part, because it can get really tricky.

Walk right until you get to a doorway. Enter the doorway.

You will find yourself in another room. Jump up onto the concrete structure, and go all the way left. Jump up onto the wooden box. You need to jump to the right, and then jump up onto the boxes. Make sure you don’t jump to far to the right, though, because one of the Black Widow’s guards is standing to the right of the boxes. If any of the guards see you, you will have to start over.

After you have jumped up onto the boxes, if you look at the ledge to the right, you can see a guard walking towards the edge of the ledge, and then walking away. When you see him turn away from the ledge, jump up onto the same ledge as him and go to the couch. Use the couch as a spring and jump up onto the left-hand ledge. Walk to the left until you get to the metal doors. There should be a little security device attached to the wall to the right of the doors. Go to your items and find the Key Card’s item card. Click on the button that says “Use”. That will cause the doors to open. Enter the next room through the doors. You will enter the Black Widow’s private gallery.

This part is the hardest, so it may take awhile to complete. Don’t give up, though!

Go right until you see the Black Widow. The mysterious man will go over onto a yellow platform and tell you to turn the handle so he will be raised up to the floor that the Black Widow is on and so he can catch her.

The Black Widow will start dropping artwork. You must catch all the artwork she drops, you can’t let over a million dollars worth break. When the Black Widow gets mad, rush over to the yellow platform and start turning the handle until the Black Widow throws a bomb. Rush away from the platform and start catching more artwork. Repeat that process until you raise the platform all the way up. Then, the mysterious man will rush over to the Black Widow and knock her down of off the floor.

A moment later, a newspaper article will appear on the screen. The headline is “Black Widow Busted-Alone Behind Bars!!” Once you are done looking at the article, press the button on the top right-hand corner of the screen.

You will find yourself at the Web Browser Internet Cafe. Standing next to you is the curator. She will tell you that she wants you to meet her at the museum and that there is something that she wants you to see.

Exit the cafe and go to the museum. Enter the museum.

Once you are inside the museum, go all the way to the right until you see the curator. She will thank you for your help. She will tell you again that there is something that she wants you to see. She will tell you that the world’s greatest artwork was hidden behind the museum’s walls. The curator will walk over to the wall and press the red button. The walls will slide down, revealing more walls, covered with famous paintings!

You will be given the island medallion and 100 free credits to spend at the Poptropica Store!
